BoG at Gallifrey: App Testing

In theory, I can add a photo from my iPhone to a post written on said device. In reality…. I see that it just adds them at the end of the post, no options for editing. Oh well. Enjoy this photo of Dot the Leopard eating in the hotel bar.

Catching Up, Without the Benefit of Depeche Mode

catching-up-without-the-benefit-of-depeche-mode

So, yeah, all quiet on the BoG front these past several months, eh? Miss me? (Don’t all answer at once!) Well, best I can say is that I’ve been busy. I have my own forum now, for one thing…. (Oh, okay, it’s not just mine, but as I’m one of the forum directors (and one of the not-for-profit corporation’s officers), I can call it mine and be mostly correct.) In any case, since I’m contemplating putting reviews of the Beatles mono set and Beatles: Rockband here, I thought it might be a good idea to catch up on some Doctor Who related things first, since this blog is supposed to be mostly about the show/the fandom/the myth/ the legend. I know you’re dying to continue reading, so…. allons-y! Read the rest of this entry »

Marathon Blogging (and Viewing) Day

marathon-blogging-and-viewing-day

Yep, the birds are chirping (except the one who kamakazied against our deck door and is now just a corpse on the deck– euuuuuuuuuuuuuu), the sun is shining, it’s a warm, bright, sunny day. Naturally, it’s perfect weather to stay inside and catch up on Doctor Who.

Well, not really, but if I want to go hang w/ my friends tonight, I have to rewatch “Fires of Pompeii” plus see for the first time “Planet of the Ood” and “The Sontaran Stragegem”, so that I can properly appreciate “The Poison Sky.”

I tell ya, Doctor Who hasn’t exactly been appointment viewing for me this season. Shocking, I know. Nevertheless, I’m going to blast through a couple episodes today (and hopefully blog about them, too, so I can be all caught up again.)

Anyway, time to get some more tea, my lappy, and the remote. (’cause, yeah, I’m Old School and actually have to watch the episodes on the teevee. Ok, or on the iPod, but it’s only comfortable watching multiple episodes on the iPod when squeezed into an airplane seat. (Easy support of the arms, don’t you know.)

Up Pompeii!

up-pompeii

Darn, I really wish I knew what that phrase referenced (other than I think a 1970’s britcom?), ’cause I like it loads.

In any case, I can’t do a “First Impressions” yet on “Fires of Pompeii” as it was so rich in dialog (much of which I only half-heard, don’t know whether from having to watch it at a somewhat-low volume or from there just being so much stuff there on the soundtrack), I’m going to have to watch it again before commenting much. I’ll leave you hanging for the moment with three things:

  1. Catherine Tate for the Win!
  2. I am Spartacus… and so is my wife!
  3. There’s so many references to past stories (both old and new school), it’s tempting to think the season finale will be one massive kitchen sink of wank. We can only hope it doesn’t degenerate into that….

The actual review might not appear until next week, what with various commitments I have the next few days. Sorry about that, chief!

Let’s Play Catch-Up!

lets-play-catch-up

Yeah, that pseudo-live blogging attempt at Gallifrey really crashed and burned, didn’t it? Put it down to being really, really sick at the convention. Ugh! I had a cough that wouldn’t go away. (It’s still lingering, although I am well past the trying-to-cough-up-the-lungs stage.)

Now that we have an Official BBC Start Date for Series 4 (that would be April 5, for those of you who’ve missed it), I figure that now is as good a time as any to catch up on Doctor Who fandom and my observations thereof.

Go on, read it. You know you want to, in your hearts of hearts.

People of Earth, attend….

…. just to say that, yeah, I know I sort of fell off the transmitting tower there for a bit, but I’ll be back soon. Honestly! At that point, I will wrap up my commentary on Series 3, go on a bit of The Summer of Wank, and also reminisce further about my days as a baby fan and the Con That Changed Everything For Me.

GIP!

gip

(aka Gratuitous Icon Post)

Right. Now that I’ve found an actual photo of Fonzie jumping a shark (I guess– I thought it was on his motorcycle and going over a tank– sillly moi), I am all prepared for the Big Reveal about Mr Saxon. Joy.

Baninated!

baninated

Not this Jennie Foreigner’s access to The Offical BBC DW Website– that’s still available to me and with a little more than a day to go before the premiere, too. A-freaking-mazing.

What’s baninated is this URL in China, apparently, at least according to greatfirewallofchina.org. Wow! I had no idea I could subvert the glorious Chinese government so. Makes notes on world domination…..
