Now that Torchwood has started up again on the Beeb (and will reach us plebeians in the colonies in just another few days, OMG), I suppose it might benefit my vast quantity of readers (ha!) if I sum up what I thought of the first series before making comments on the second.

Sometimes I wonder about Doctor Who fandom, I really do. It was wanky enough before the New Series, what with all those arguments over “Wither Seven” and “Are the Books Canon” frequently requiring earnest fanboys to don asbestos flak suits before venturing into, say, rec.arts.doctorwho or even the Outpost Gallifrey forum. Once the new series started? The fangirls invaded, bringing into the fandom all sorts of girly wanks which can be much more annoying than the fanboy wanks. With the way fans of both sexes fuss these days, it almost makes me wish the show hadn’t had such a triumphant regeneration!

And now, for your Enlightenment (but not Persuasion, because there’s no way I want Tegan sticking her big mouth in here, even if she can draw fashion well), let’s review the year, in eleven wanks or less…. Read the rest of this entry »
