And Don’t Let The Door Hit You On the Way Out!

So, it’s official, David Tennant is bailing on Doctor Who after the 2009 specials. Color me surprised– NOT! Sure, it would have been nice to have him stay through at least a bit of the Moffat era, but oh well. I am disappointed, but also excited about what a new actor can bring to the part. I trust in the Moffat-nator to pick someone who is both hunky and can act.
What I’m already hating, though, is all the wailing and nashing of teeth regarding Tennant’s departure.
It’s not like I didn’t see this coming. The way many new fen obsess over the Tenth Doctor, of course they’d all be in shock and full of angst etc. when the announcement finally came. But… now we have to deal with some 18 months of “oh, who’s going to be the new doctor” and “oh, I don’t think HE will be a good Doctor, why was he cast” and “oh, how is Ten going to regenerate” and “Oh, that’s an awful way to regenerate” and “Oh, I hope Rose comes back one last time to be with Her Doctor as He dies.” Eighteen months is a freaking long time, if you ask me! It’s more than enough time for the entire fandom to become hermaphrodites with the amount of wankage that will occur!
Let’s take a look at the above wankage, shall we, and find a bit of comfort in each?
- Oh, who’s going to be the new Doctor? Some U.K. male, probably Caucasian, between the ages of 33-42. Perhaps not well-known, but a competent actor and probably good-looking, too, to keep all those girl!fans who think of nothing but the Doctor’s dishy-ness happy. I don’t see us getting another Sylvester McCoy!
- Oh, I don’t think HE will be a good Doctor, why was he cast? People said the same thing about Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Christopher Eccleston, and David Tennant.
- Oh, how is Ten going to regenerate? Probably very well, if the transition from Nine to Ten is any indication.
- Oh, that’s an awful way to regenerate! Yeah, but it can’t be any worse than Six tripping over an invisible crack in the TARDIS floor and turning into Seven. Sheesh!
- Oh, I hope Rose comes back one last time to be with Her Doctor as He dies. This freaking better not happen, or I will hop a plane to Cardiff and take RTD to task personally. Still, at least we already have an indication that Moffat doesn’t like the Clingy Girlfriend, so at least it would be the very last time we see that chavvy bint!
Oh, all right, that wasn’t very inspirational, was it? May Kroll have mercy on our souls between now and Easter 2010!
