I’ve figured it out. I’ve been somewhat bugged all week by the new Doctor’s costume. Although it’s nice, it’s also sticking in my craw. It dawned on me this morning what’s wrong with it:

It looks like something a fan film Doctor would pick out. Trying too hard to look Doctor-ish! Aided and abedded by Matt Smith’s tender years, this new Doctor is looking very lamely fanboyish indeed! One can only hope that Matt Smith’s performance will be better than the average fan film Doctor’s performance.

(Cranky? Moi! Mais oui!)

Ah, you’ve seen the photos by now. Anyway, head to toe:

Hair: yes! Longish! Did they darken it, though? (Is Moffat pulling a JNT??)

Bow tie: erm, ok

shirt: nice texture, color, pattern

jacket: tweed!!!! Haven’t seen tweed in a long time. Like the elbow patches. Darts in front resemble Ten’s Suit Jacket darts. I want to see the back, though!

pants: really modern appearing, in contrast to everything else. Interesting.

Suspenders: yay! But… did they have to be clip-ons??????

boots: wukka wukka wukka wukka wukka boots. YES!

Would have liked to have seen a hat on him. Perhaps that will be optional. And… will there be brainy specs? Davison-style would go perfect with the rest of the Mid-Century Professor look he’s rocking.

So far, so good.
