I have owned this blog space and domain for nearly 2 years (perhaps more for the domain, given where the inspiration came from). I’ve not done anything with it, other than customizing it a bit, until now.
My original intent was to blog about the new series as it aired in the U.K. Got busy, and that didn’t happen. Then I was going to review the Ninth Doctor episodes as they aired in the U.S. with my best friend/sister/writing partner, but that idea got its own domain name. (Not that anything has appeared there, mind you!) Real life frequently got in the way, and, really, I was avoiding doing anything of note here because I was operating under an attitude part “Oh, my opinions don’t matter anyway” and part “I can’t speak my mind because I hold positions of responsibility and I don’t want my opinions to be taken for those of the Outpost Gallifrey Forum and/or Chicago TARDIS.”
It dawned on me this past weekend, on the panel I was on at CT about the State of the Fandom, that I truly have a unique perspective. I’ve been a Doctor Who fan all my adult life (and, technically a little before, since I was 17 1/2 when I first sucumbed to the Doctor’s charms). I’ve been involved in Doctor Who fandom all my adult life. I’ve been there, done that, and, for the most part, remember it! If I don’t write about it, who will?
I am also of the age where one starts to feel comfortable about no longer caring what other people think. Thus I am feeling more brave about putting my actual thoughts and reactions out in B-space. (”B” for “blog”, and it sounds like “E-space”– lame, yeah, thanks.)
How far things will get after this initial declaration, I have no idea. Thanks for braving the choppy dimensions of the time vortex with me, though! I’ve set the coordinates, and have pulled the dematerialization lever. Let’s see where we land next!
